Historic Aircraft Livery Restoration – CAF & Delta Airlines
Project type
Technical illustration
Craig Tinder was commissioned by the Commemorative Air Force to recreate the historically accurate livery of a full-size 1940s aircraft as part of its restoration to flying condition. Tasked with guiding Delta Airlines in executing the paintwork, Craig conducted in-depth primary and secondary research to document original markings from the 1960s to depict the aircraft's use in Vietnam. He developed a detailed style guide outlining paint colors, demarcation lines, stencils, and insignia placement to ensure historical fidelity. Once completed, the aircraft will take to the skies once again—preserving a legacy for future generations of aviation enthusiasts.
